Coach of the Week: Rob Moon

1. How did you find CrossFit and how long have you been doing it?
In 2004, one of my academy recruits introduced me to it.  I CrossFitted off and on for a few years but have done it seriously since 2007.
2. What is your favorite movements and also what is your favorite WOD?
I LOVE Kettelbells.  Swings, presses, snatches, TGUs.  Anything with a ketelbell.  Presses and Deadlifts are some of my favorites too.
My favorite WOD is a toss up between Fran and Helen.  Fran was my first WOD ever.  Almost my last.  It took me just under 45 mins to complete the first time.  And Helen is just fun.
3. What WOD has left you thinking "I hope I never see that one again!"?
It was one of Dan's WODs.  It started out with bear crawls and had box jumps, squat cleans, and double unders.  It was low weight, high rep and 5 rounds of it.  My shoulders were usless for about three days.
4. Why do you CrossFit?
I dont think there is enough room here.  I'll just give you the top three.  1)  It allows me to do my job better and safer and get home to my family.  2)  The community.  3) I really like the "constantly varied" aspect of CrossFit.  It keeps me on my toes and keeps me from getting stagnant.
5. Has it changed your life?
In more ways then mere words can express.
6. What is your favorite part about coaching?
My athletes I coach.  Hands down.  Seeing someone get a new PR or getting there first pull up inspires and motivates me.  Seeing someone do something they had no idea they ever could do is such an exilerating feeling for me.  Their face lights up, they smile from ear to ear, and you can almost see them walk taller and prouder. 
7. If you could have any super power, which would it be and why?
Now your delving into my inner geek.  I would like to teleport like Nightcrawler to save me drive time, but it would also be cool to charge objects with kinetic energy like Gambit.  But bottom line, I would like to have Nightwing's discipline, drive, and desire. (for those that don't know, Nightwing dosent have super powers, he's just a man.  He used to be Batman's side kick Robin till he went on his own.)
8. What is your favorite quote?
"When you season hardship with laughter you get camaraderie."  I dont know who said it but I think it fits CrossFit pretty well.
9. What is your favorite music during a work out?
80's hair metal, all the way.
10. Any advice for future CrossFitters?
Don't give up.  Anything worth having in life takes time and work.  Scale it back to start with but keep at it.  I guarantee you will feel better after each and every workout.
