April 2016 Member of the Month: Jill Barton

1. How did you find CrossFit?
It all actually started at Starbucks a little over six years ago. I would go to Starbucks pretty much every day before work. Amber Baker worked there at the time so she became a pretty familiar face. We both noticed that we would also run into each other at LA Fitness, so seeing her became an everyday occurrence. During this time she found CrossFit through a coworker and suggested I come and try it. I went to one class and never looked back. It changed everything.
2. What is your favorite CrossFit exercise or WOD?
Some of my favorite movements include box jumps, double unders, cleans, and wall balls. Some favorite WODs are Kelly, Annie, Cindy, Murph, and 11.1.
3. How long have you been CrossFitting?

A little over six years.
4. What do you do for a living?

I work at Banner UMC as a pharmacist. I am also a wife to Dave and mother to Dax.
5. What are you goals?
My major goals are always to be better than yesterday and to overcome weaknesses.
6. Any advice for future CrossFitters?
My advice for future CrossFitters is that CrossFit can and will expose weaknesses and you can’t get discouraged by this. There will always be something to work at and improve on. Just keep at it and be amazed with your accomplishments.
7. Favorite WOD Music?
I like tons of music. Some of my favorite artists for WODs include Jay-Z, Eminem, Gorillaz, Daft Punk, and Pitbull.
8. Best vacation you've ever been on?
I would have to say a Caribbean cruise Dave and I took. We had such an awesome time and made some friends we still keep in touch with. I thought Tortola was beautiful and would love to go back there someday.
9. Who inspires you?

My family, the coaches at CFNWT, and all mothers.
10. What keeps you motivated?
Continually wanting to improve keeps me motivated the most.
11. What can't you live without?
My family, friends, laughter, chocolate and wine.
12. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?

I guess I would have to say I wish I could rock those white shorts like Stacie Tovar.
13. What do you consider your greatest achievement?
Becoming a mother. It has been the most rewarding and challenging endeavor yet, and I absolutely love it.
14. Any pet peeves?

I feel weird if I can’t work out in the first gym. I also hate folding fitted sheets.
15. What is your motto (words you live by or that mean a lot to you)? 
“Speak with honesty, think with sincerity, act with integrity.” 
“Eat well, work hard, love truly, travel often.” 
“Don’t be afraid to fail. Be afraid not to try.”
16. What keeps you coming back?

The coaches, the atmosphere, the friendships, the memories, and that awesome feeling you have physically and mentally after killing a WOD.
